GoTop is a place where webmasters can find other webmasters to trade links with. A webmaster is a person who control the content of an Internet site.
Normally it takes a lot of work to locate sites who wants to trade links. The usual way is to type keywords into search engines and then visit the sites that looks interesting. Then you have to try and find a way to contact the webmaster in charge of the site, which can be very tricky. Finally, when you find the right site and a way to contact them it usually turns out that they are not interested in a link exchange...
GoTop solves all these problems for you! In our directory there are only sites listed who WANTS to trade links. We also contact them for you.
Do I have to be a webmaster to use GoTop?
Yes you do. You must be in control of a website to be able to put up links to other sites on it. If you represent a company that has a website but you are not the webmaster, contact him/her and explain about GoTop, so that your company can get started with trading links.
Why is it good to trade links?
The main reason is of course to drive traffic to your site. Used right, link trading can increase your number of visitors by the thousands. There are three main effects of having a lot of links out on the Internet pointing to your site.
1. People will see the link to your site and click it while visiting the sites you have made a link exchange with.
2. Most search engines will favor your site if many other sites are linking to it. This means your site will show up early in their search results. This will of course mean that more people find your site and thus more visitors.
3. Many search engines have what is called "Spiders" running around the Internet looking for sites to put in their databases. These spiders will more easily find your site if a link to it is placed on a lot of websites on the Internet! Your site will be listed = More Visitors.
How do I put up a link to GoTop on my site?
This is a favor we ask of you. Click HERE for info on how to link to us. Since you are already interested in exchanging links it will not be much extra work for you to link to GoTop. It will also gain yourself in the long run, because the more sites that find their way to GoTop, the more link trades you can do through GoTop.
What is the difference between "GoTop Partner" and regular members?
A "GoTop Partner" is not the same as being an ordinary GoTop Member. The partners are listed at the top of their category with a Gold Star next to their listing. They have a "clickable" pure HTML link that will drive traffic and boost Link Popularity to their websites.
The cost of applying for becoming a "GoTop Partner" is $3.95. They receive approx 400% more link exchange requests than an ordinary member, so it is valuable to entertain partner status. At present we only accept "GoTop partner" applications as our "ordinary member" quota is full.
If you are an ordinary member and wish to upgrade to partner status you are welcome to go to Payment and deposit $3.95 via Paypal and we will review your application within 7 days. If you have ordinary membership chances are almost 100% that you will qualify for "partner status".
Does GoTop link back to my site?
Yes, we link to all "GoTop Partners". But we don't link to our regular members. Regular members are of course listed in our directory but not with the URL, - only the Title and Description of the websites.
Why aren't all the sites in the GoTop Directory clickable?
First, read the answer on the previous question. Furthermore, next to every listed site is a checkbox. If you want to make contact with that site, check the checkbox, click "Add selected sites" and click "Check out". Fill in the form and pay the "Partnership fee". If your application is accepted e-mails will go out to all the sites you selected earlier, telling them you are interested in a link exchange. If they in turn are interested they will contact you and you will make the reciprocal link trade.
Do I have to link back to everybody that links to me?
No, you have the right to decide which websites you want to link to. However, not many websites will link to you if you do not link to them. We recommend all webmasters to keep track of all your links out there and check them once in a while to make sure they are still up and running.
Since it is not possible to completely review a website before a member sends out the first proposition email, it is not necessary that he/she goes through with the link exchange if the approached website turns out not to live up to the expectations.
I've added my site to GoTop and received an "You are accepted!" email from you, what do I do now?
Just sit back and relax and watch your traffic grow. No, just kidding! When joining GoTop you probably "Checked" a lot of websites that you wanted to exchange links with. The webmasters of those websites have now received emails from us telling them you want to exchange links and also the Title, URL and Description of your website and your email address. If they think your website qualifies for a link-trade, they will add a link to your website on their website and also send you an email with the Title, URL and Description of their website, as well as the location of the new link pointing to your site. You will then inspect the link pointing to your website and, if you accept the way it is placed, you go ahead and add a link pointing to their website on one of your pages and Voila! - the link exchange is complete.
After a while you in turn will receive link exchange propositions from new (or old) members wanting to trade links with you.
Remember to log in to GoTop once in a while to look for new members to exchange links with!
I've added my site but it's not listed, why?
We always try to process new applications within 4 days. If it takes longer than that, and you hear nothing from us, it can be one of several reasons:
1. Your website does not qualify for the GoTop Directory due to, for example, inappropriate material published (We choose completely at our own descretion who may, and may not, be accepted as a GoTop Member. If your website does not qualify you will not hear from us due to the large number of websites that apply.) Read our requirements here.
2. There is something wrong with your link to GoTop, it could be wrongly coded and not working, inappropriately placed or just not found. In these cases we will contact you to work it out.
3. It could be that we have had a very busy period. Give us a few more days.
4. If you signed up for "Partner Membership" you will receive a refund of the entire fee if your website does not qualify.
"Regular Members"! Note that, while a link-trade request is being processed by us, your website will not be listed in the Directory. It will reappear again shortly in the Directory when we have looked over your requests.
If you are a paying member you cancel your subscription from within YOUR OWN Paypal account. This is all you have to do, we will be notified by Paypal and your listing at GoTop will be discontinued.
If you are a "free" member you should login to your GoTop account and click "Edit profile", write "Remove" in front of your Title and we will remove you from GoTop.

The more sites that links to your site, the better your site performs in many SE's (search engines)!
If a link to your site is called for example "Free Games", many SE's will show your site in the search results for "Free Games", even if these words do not exist anywhere on your site!
